आदर्श आचार संहिता लागू, उत्तराखंड में 15 फरवरी को होगा मतदान

 

देहरादून - चुनाव आयोग ने उत्तराखंड सहित अन्य पांच राज्यों में होने वाले आगामी विधानसभा चुनावों की तारीखों का ऐलान कर दिया। उत्तराखंड में 15 फरवरी को विधानसभा चुनाव होंगे। राज्य में चुनाव ‌एक चरण में होगा। 11 मार्च को सभी राज्यों में मतगणना एक साथ होगी। चुनाव के परिणामों के लिए उत्तराखंड की जनता को लगभग एक माह का इंतजार करना होगा।

चुनाव आयोग द्वारा बुधवार को पांच राज्यों में होने जा रहे विधानसभा चुनाव की तारीख घोषित करने के साथ ही गोवा, पंजाब, मणिपुर और उत्तरप्रदेश में आदर्श आचार संहिता भी लागू कर दी है।

जिसके लिए चुनाव आयोग ने मुख्य निर्वाचन आयुक्त जसीम जैदी अगुवाई में दोपहर 12 बजे प्रेस कांफ्रेंस की। बताया गया कि उत्तराखंड में 70 विधानसभा सीटों पर चुनाव होने हैं। उत्तराखंड विधानसभा का कार्यकाल 26 मार्च को पूरा होगा। सभी राज्यों के चुनाव एक साथ होंगे। उत्तराखंड में 15 फरवरी को विधानसभा चुनाव होंगे। राज्य में चुनाव ‌एक चरण में होगा।

उत्तराखंड में चुनाव का नोटिफिकेशन 20 जनवरी को जारी होगा। नोमिनेशन दर्ज कराने की आखिरी तारीख 27 जनवरी होगी।बताया गया कि नोमिनेशन की स्क्रूटनी 28 जनवरी को होगी। उम्मीदवार की नाम वापसी 30 जनवरी को होगी।

MDDA seals illegal construction at Avalon resort

Mussoorie, August 23
The local administration in association with the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) sealed a flat being constructed illegally at the Avalon resort, near Gun Hill, in Mussoorie today.

A joint team of the local administration and the MDDA reached the resort around noon and stopped the construction work being done on one flat of the resort. Following that, the officials sealed the flat and directed the owners not to venture out with construction activity, further.

The MDDA officials said notice had been served to the owners regarding the illegal construction but there was no response from the other side forcing them to carry out the sealing drive on the instruction from the MDDA, joint secretary.

Gayatri House declared overall winner of 20th talent, cultural show

Mussoorie, April 20 - The 20th annual talent and cultural fiesta was held at Mussoorie International School auditorium here today. Gayatri House was declared the overall champion. Shantanu Prakash, CMD of Educomp Solutions, was the chief guest on the occasion. Prakash along with Padma Bhushan awardee Dr Shyama Chona inaugurated the programme. They lighted the ceremonial lamp and garlanded the portrait of Maa Gayatri and gurudev.

The event started with the chanting of traditional verses from the Vedas by the students.

An instrumental, musical event rendered in traditional ‘ragas’ of the Hindustani and Carnatic music. The students also played different instruments as well.

Santoshi House played raga Pilu, Gayatri House played raga Bhahaar and Lakshmi House played raga Desh.

The students also competed with each other in Hindi song section composed by S Ghildyal and Jhadav.

The instrumental music event was followed by instrumental musical drums, where students played instruments including, congo, tabla, xylophone, bongo and western drums.

The students also displayed their talent at the on the spot painting event.

The students of Santoshi House presented an English mime based on a poem written by Toru Dutt.

An English play ‘Draupadi’, tribal folk dances including, Dollu Kunitha from Karnataka, Siala from Chattisgarh and Dhalkai from Sambalpur were also performed by the students on the occasion.

The students also mesmerised the audience by their Kathak performance.

They displayed a saree fashion show at the end.

Principal Priya Peter said such talent shows helped in instilling confidence among the students.

The chief guest also gave away the winning trophy to Gayatri House.

London Olympic fever grips Mussoorie

The Olympic fever has gripped the hill town of Mussoorie. Students from Rama Devi Inter College, along with several dignitaries from the town, gathered at Jhoola Ghar in large numbers with the Tricolour in their hands and extended their best wishes to the Indian Olympic team and prayed for the athletes for better performance so that they return with a rich haul of medals and bring laurels to the country.
Eminent roller skater of yesteryear Gopal Bhardwaj also wished for a sterling performance of the team in the London Olympics by skating on roller wheels from Jhoola Ghar to Library Bazaar and back.
Gopal Bhardwaj said that the town had the rare distinction of being part of the Olympic movement in true sense as more than 6 students from the town had represented the country in hockey in the Amsterdam (1928) and Berlin (1936) Olympics.
According to Gopal Bhardwaj, the students from Oak Grove and St.George's School, Richard Carr, George Eric Martin, C Carrol Tapsell, Willy J Cullen, Erin J Cullen and Elsey represented the country along with Major Dhyan Chand, considered wizard of hockey, in the gold medal winning Olympic team in 1928 and 1936.
The Mussoorie Sports Association president, Suresh Goyal, speaking on the occasion, said that the entite country was behind the Olympic team and was praying for their return with a rich haul of medals in these Olympics.
The students from Rama Devi School also sung the famous song from the film, “Chak De India,” depicting hockey, in order to motivate the Indian team.

Tree plantation drive in Mussoorie, nearby areas

Taking advantage of the monsoons, a tree plantation drive was carried out in Mussoorie and surrounding areas today.

The plantation drive began early morning when school students from Sanatan Dharam Inter-College gathered on their school premises and planted around 15 saplings of Oak and Deodaar.

In another event around 9000 saplings of trees such as Grewia Optiva (Bhimaal), Blackjack Oak, Golden Shower Tree (Amaltaash), Aegle marmelos ( Bael), Kharik and Pachnaar were planted around Kempty Falls area jointly by the 127 battalion of Eco Task Force and students of Government Inter College, Kempty.

Colonel HS Rana, Commanding Officer of the task force, led the team which planted the saplings in widelspread areas around Kempty and adjacent villages here.

According to Subedar Dilip Kumar, the Eco Task Force has set a target of planting around four lakh trees in a year and assist in greening the Aglar-Yamuna valley.

The 127 Battalion of Eco-Task Force (ETF), Dehradun, was set up on December 1, 1982, with the aim to control the process of ecological degradation of Shivalik Hills and area around Mussoorie, where continuous mining over the years had wreaked havoc on the flora and fauna.

Rama Devi Inter College students planted saplings near their school to mark the occasion of Sri Dev Suman Shaheed Diwas. They also planted around 50 saplings and contributed in greening the environment.

With the news of the death of Bollywood action hero Dara Singh, wrestler, and best known for his TV portrayal of Lord Hanuman reaching Mussoorie, a pall of gloom set in the town today.
Dara Singh died at his Mumbai home on Thursday, days after suffering a heart attack. He was 84.
Dara Singh had a close connection with the hill town of Mussoorie, and that was evident from his nearly 20 trips to the town since 1960 on different occasions.
Local historian Gopal Bhardwaj, paying rich tributes to the great wrestler and actor who had given action films altogether a different dimension, said that Dara Singh first visited the town during Commonwealth International Wrestling Championship in 1959. It was in this championship Dara Singh defeated the great wrestler of his times King Kong in a free style wrestling bout held at the Rink Hall, considered to be the biggest in Asia then.
Gopal Bhardwaj reminisced that the championship held at Mussoorie created a flutter among the kids like him, who, on hearing about the great bout between the two rivals, rushed to towards Rink Hall to catch a glimpse of Dara Singh. The great Indian wrestler defeated King Kong in this bout handsomely, much to the delight of the residents and the tourists alike here.
Bhardwaj further said that the win over King Kong here raised him immediately to international fame and it was after this bout he never looked back and won around 500 fights consecutively.
“The whole area around the Rink was energised and the crowd swelled with every passing minute, such was the craze for the Indian wrestler back then,” added Bhardwaj.
Dara Singh, on the invitation from the National Roller Skating Association, once again visited the town in 1969 as chief guest where he distributed the awards to the participants from around the country. Beena Bhardwaj, the national champion in roller skating, said that Dara Singh was impressed with the talent displayed by the roller skaters. He mentioned to some officials that skating was the sport that he could never take to in his life, as it required balancing on the wheels, added Beena.
Dara Singh visited the town on a number of occasions after that and also shot his film titled “Veeru Ustad” in 1976 in Mussoorie.
Vinay, now aged 42, remembering the shooting of an action sequence on the roof of the cable car for the film “Veeru Ustaad” at Gun Hill, said that it was an unforgettable moment for him to watch the iconic figure up close thrashing out the villain in the scene.
Ashish Verma, remembering his close encounter with Dara Singh in 1991, said that Dara Singh had come for some function to Mussoorie, and during his stay at the hotel, met him and invited him to dinner.
“Dara Singh was the most lively person he had ever met in his life, who always advised young men like him not to lose hope and keep struggling without complaining,” added Ashish.
With the death of the Dara Singh, India has lost not only a good wrestler and actor but a human being who lived life to the fullest.
Dara Singh also enthralled the people of Dehradun with his wrestling prowess at Pavilion Ground in the mid-sixties and played an important role in motivating youth towards wrestling.
They said that Dara Singh will always have a special place in their hearts for his immense contribution to society through his work in films and wrestling.

Three tourists booked

Mussoorie, April 29
Three drunk tourists created a ruckus on the Mussoorie-Kempty road and threatened the passing commuters by waving pistol flame lighter in the air today.
According to the police, three tourists Rahul, Vijay and Ravi, who were on their visit to Mussoorie, were creating ruckus in a drunken state near the fire station on the Mussoorie-Kempty road around noon today. The three youths also began threatening the passing residents and tourists by waving the pistol flame lighter in their possession.
One of the tourists, Ajay Rana, who thought it to be a real pistol and fearing for his life, immediately called the local police, which rushed to the spot and apprehended the culprits.
The three youths have been booked under Section 81, destroying peace of the town and have been sent for a medical analysis to hospital. Later, the police left them after a stern warning and a fine.

Mussoorie remembers Shakespeare

Local historians and residents of Mussoorie remembered the greatest English playwright of his time William Shakespeare on his 448th birth anniversary and 396th death anniversary here today.
Students from public and Hindi medium schools recited verses from his famous play Macbeth and Julius Caesar, which are presently in the syllabus of the schools. A biography of the playwright was also read out to the students.
Principal of Mussoorie Public School Mukesh Lal said that his school had been actively observing the birth and death anniversary of the “Bard of Avon” that coincidentally falls on the same day.
He said the plays of Shakespeare were relevant even today as they often have in them an element of racial tension. Othello, The Merchant of Venice and Titus Andronicus reminds us not to engage in racial scuffles as it lead to unnecessary bloodshed.
Eminent historian and chronicler from Mussoorie Gopal Bhardwaj showed the original scrap book of Captain Fredrik Young, the founder of the town. He said love for Shakespeare could be proven from the etching of bard found in the scrap book that has been preserved in its original form even today. The etching, if sold today, could fetch more than £400 in Sotheby’s, added Bhardwaj.
He also said the town use to reverberate with the plays at the theatres, especially built for the Shakespearean plays during the British rule.
Until 1884, the Landour theatre in the Lal Tibba area, which was a convalescent depot for the soldiers passing their time on furlough, acted as a hub to showcase the plays by Shakespeare where eminent personalities enacted various characters from “Macbeth” and “As You Like It” . Alice McDonald, the mother of eminent author Rudyard Kipling, also actively participated in the Shakespearian plays in Mussoorie.
The plays were also held at the Himalaya Club and the Rink Theatre often. The British were so fond of Shakespeare that the Rink Theatre was constructed in 1892 resembling the Globe Theatre of London and the measurement of the theatre was exactly the same to the last inch. Later with the advent of cinema halls in 1910 in Mussoorie, the Shakespearean plays lost their sheen and after Independence, the theatre in the town came to an abrupt end.
Gopal Bhardwaj lamented the fact that the plays are not performed in the town anymore and believes that his plays inculcated a sense of adventurism and creativity among students. Therefore, the revival of his plays in the town would benefit not only the students but the old likely.

Australian citizen makes people aware of autism

Ian Lahiff, Australian citizen aged around 50, walked on The Mall Road on foot, carrying a placard tied on his chest in support of raising awareness towards a fast-growing disease called autism on the eve of World Autism Day here today. The campaign was carried out under the aegis of a social organiation Arunima situated near Kyarkuli.

According to head of the organisation Aparna Das, Ian Lahiff was working for her organisation to raise awareness on the disease that was spreading its tentacles in India and people had very less knowledge about how it affects the person.

Therefore, it was important to remove any stigmas attached to it and Ian Lahiff was assisting them in raising awareness about the disease today.

She further said that Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that manifests itself during the first three years of life. The rate of autism in all regions of the world is high and it has a tremendous impact on children, their families, communities and societies.

According to the UN health reports, one out of every 88 persons was being diagnosed as suffering from the disease. Therefore, it was imperative to raise awareness towards such fatal disease. She also said that her organisation was working in the town towards addressing the problems faced by such patients and at the moment five persons were being treated at the centre run by her In Kyarkuli, near Mussoorie.

Holidays have tourists rushing to Mussoorie

Mussoorie, April 6
Tourists availing of the opportunity of an extended weekend due to two national holidays falling this week made a beeline for the Queen of Hills today to escape the soaring temperatures being witnessed in the plains of north India, bringing cheer on the faces of local businessmen.

Mahavir Jayanti on Thursday and Good Friday before the weekend have led tourists to rush to the cool climes of Mussoorie since yesterday.

A tourist from Patiala, Ravinder Singh Mann, while speaking to The Tribune, said due to the two holidays before the weekend they thought to take a four-day break from their usual busy schedule.

The elated local businessmen said they would be benefited financially by the heavy rush of tourists that would end on Easter Sunday.

The cable car on Gun Hill that had remained non-functional till a few days ago was also upgraded and it started functioning much to the delight of the tourists, who were interested in having a panoramic view of the Himalayas and the Dun valley from Gun Hill.

However, the rush of tourists also brought with it problems galore, as the town witnessed traffic jams at several places due to the lack of parking spaces. Commuters were stuck at several points on the Mussoorie-Dehradun highway as the road had been dug for the sewerage project.

Roop Chand Sharma, another tourist, said the tariffs of hotels, which were nominal till yesterday, had skyrocketed in just one night. The hotel room rates were beyond their budget and they were forced to cut short their trip.

The guesthouses were also renting rooms for a day or two at high rates. Some residential flats having no licence were also seen accommodating hapless tourists looking for rooms in the town.

Spokesperson for the Mussoorie Hotel Association Sandeep Sahni told The Tribune that most of the hoteliers were charging the rates displayed at the hotels, as the association had forewarned them sternly against overcharging tourists. He said the tourists could book rooms online or through telephone to avoid any disappointment later.

Officials of the local administration said they were on the vigil along with the police and had directed the hoteliers to display room rates at their receptions for the convenience of the tourists.

The tourists had been advised that in case of any complaint they could approach the police and the administration. The Municipal Council, the Jal Sansthan and the Health Department also put their act together as the last minute repair of public toilets, sewerage and the road was on till the filing of the report.

The rush for four days before the peak tourist season would also be a litmus test for various departments and allow them to overcome any shortcomings likely to emerge later. 

TIBETAN TEAM ON ECO-STUDY TOUR

Mussoorie, April 5
A group of 22 Tibetan students and teachers from three institutions in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh visited Woodstock School organic farm in Mussoorie under the second leg of a10-day eco-study tour today.

The eco-study tour is jointly organised by Winterline Nature Trust and the Tibetan Children’s Village (TCV) School in Selakui, Dehradun, which has provided more than half the participating students.

Under the programme the team spent a half-day at Woodstock School, well-known for its progressive eco-programmes.

The Tibetan students began their Woodstock visit with an in-depth interaction with KLEEN (keeping landour environment and ecology natural), an organisation that is involved with processing and segregating non-biodegradable waste in their recycling shed near Dhobi Ghat. Following that, the team moved on to the Woodstock School’s three-tier composting pits and the Turner Organic Farm.

The senior outdoor educator and a key leader of the school’s eco-initiatives at Woodstock, Darab Nagarwalla, educated the students about the turner organic farm and how it has grown since it's inception a couple of years back. He also said that the organic fertiliser produced here is used in the gardens of the school, thus ensuring the effective use of the recycled waste produced in the school premises here.

Nagarwalla, speaking to The tribune, said: “It is always a pleasure to receive our Tibetan visitors, and particularly so since all the schools on this visit are aggressively moving from eco-theory to eco-practice. I myself visited Sambhota Tibetan School in Paonta Sahib and was delighted to see their eco-progress. We at Woodstock certainly do not claim to have a copyright on eco-knowledge and are

more than happy to share it with other students so that they also carry forward what they have learnt here”. The team will also visit Tehri Dam and other sites in the area before moving on to Rajaji

National Park and Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary, along with Jhillmil Jheel Conservation Reserve, the Gujjar resettlement village in Gaindikhatta and other spots of ecological significance.

Rich tributes paid to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev on Balidan Divas

Eminent social activists, historians and environmentalists observed Balidan Divas and paid rich tributes in a seminar held at Mussoorie today to Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, who attained martyrdom during the struggle for freedom on March 23,1931. The seminar was organised under the aegis of social organisation Sarva Bhavantu Sukhina at the Municipal Council premises at around 11am.
The chief guest on the occasion senior BJP leader Ravinder Jugran, along with eminent historian Gopal Bhardwaj, environmentalist Vipin Gupta and social activist Amit Bhatt, lighting the ceremonial lamp in memory of the martyrs, said that the sacrifice of the martyrs known and unknown cannot easily be forgotten in Indian Freedom Struggle.
Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, the three revolutionaries, were pioneers in shaping the country's future through their thoughts that are relevant even today.
Jugran, speaking on the occasion, said that it was Bhagat Singh who had said "mere freedom from the British is no freedom; it is worth only when the farmer earns his pride, the workers earn their dignity and the country remains united." This was the basis of the path of freedom on which the country required to tread after gaining Independence.
Ravinder Jugran was of the view that the life and struggle of such martyrs should be incorporated in the school syllabus of government and public schools alike so that children are inspired by their
thoughts and resolve to build the nation according to dreams envisaged by the martyrs.
The eminent historian, Gopal Bhardwaj, remembering the period under British Raj, said that during that period the Indians did not have the freedom that existed today and one should thank the martyrs
for providing us this life where we can express ourselves freely.
Eminent environmentalist Vipin Gupta, speaking on the occasion, said that the people from metropolitan cities were not aware of the sacrifice made by freedom fighters and the need was to educate them through such programmes as held today. He also said that political class has failed
miserably infulfilling the dreams for which the martyrs had laid their lives during the struggle for Independence due to their individual interests. He appealed to people take inspiration from the lives of martyrs and try to become responsible citizens of the country.
Eminent educationist Anuj Tayal, Roop Chand Sharma and municipal council president OP Uniyal also addressed the gathering on the occasion.
The volunteers from Sarva Bahvantu Sukhina organisation rendered several patriotic songs on the occasion that were much appreciated by the audience.
Lalit Mohan Kala, the coordinator of the programme, said that the youth should learn from the life of the martyrs and dedicate their lives for the service of the nation.
DEHRADUN: Members of the Uttaranchal Punjabi Mahasabha, Dehrdaun, organised a march to pay tributes to Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru on Shaheed Divas at the Clock Tower here today. Harish Narang, general secretary of the mahasabha, said: "I feel proud to be an Indian and lucky to be a part of this march."
Meanwhile, the Naujawan Uttarakhand Sabha paid tributes to the martyrs by playing patriotic songs on the occasion.

Dist Magistrate reviews development works

Mussoorie, March 23
District Magistrate (DM), Dehradun, Dilip Javalkar, directed the officials from various departments to complete all pending works before the Chief Secretary's meeting scheduled for April 9 at the development works review meeting held in Mussoorie today.
He also attended the hospital management committee meeting at St Mary's Hospital at Kulri Bazaar earlier in the day, where he directed the health officials to ensure the availability of the medicines on a regular basis.
DM Dilip Javalkar arrived in the town around 11am and inspected the condition of St Marys Hospital in Kulri Bazaar. He also discussed the annual budget with the health officials and assured them that funds would be arranged for the upgradation of the hospital through various sources.
Chief Superintendent Sandeep Tandon apprised the DM about the shortage of specialist doctors in the hospital at St.Mary's and the Civil Hospital.
The DM directed CMO, Dehradun, KC Pant, to arrange specialist doctors such as cardiologist, orthopedic and ENT specialists from Dehradun, who would be rendering their services once every month. He also directed the officials to fill the vacant posts in the hospital.
Municipal council president OP Uniyal, who is also the member of the hospital management committee, suggested that the additional chambers be constructed at the roof of the hospital so that the doctors have enough area for attending the patients in St.Mary's Hospital. The DM also enquired about the pace of construction for the proposed Combined Medical Hospital in Landour Bazaar and directed them to complete the job at the scheduled time.
Later, Dilip Javalkar, in the review meeting held at SDM's office, reviewed the pace of development works and the condition of hygiene and cleanliness in the tourist town of Mussoorie.
Taking stock of the development works being carried out by the PWD, Municipal Council, Electricity, Jal Sansthan and Tourism Departments and other departments such as Jal Nigam. The DM directed all officials sternly to work round the clock and complete all the pending works before April 9.
He also reviewed the status of parking space in the town and directed the tourism officials to begin the process of constructing a parking space for the vehicles at the land available near Library Bazaar that is owned by Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam. He directed the Electricity Department to complete the work of shifting the electricity poles from the roads that have been widened by the PWD.
The DM reviewed the ongoing sewage project being executed by Pey Jal Nigam under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) and beautification projects being carried out by the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA).
He directed the tourism officials to upgrade and beautify the trekking route from Jharipani to Shenshai Ashram within 15 days.
Javalkar directed the municipal council officials to ensure that all the dustbins were covered as the open containers attract stray animals who scattered the garbage around.
Later, speaking to the media, Dilp Jawalkar said that the Jal Santhan had also been directed to ensure continuous supply of drinking water in the town during the tourist season. He sought a complete report from all departments before April 9 so that it can be presented in the Chief Secretary’s meeting scheduled for April 9.

He thanked Tourism Secretary BS Sandhu for considering proposals of developing and upgrading of tourist areas such as Bhatta Fall and Jharipani Fall worth Rs 1.5 crore.
